Hello!

My name is Sonia Jaeger. I am a psychologist, psychotherapist and digital nomad.

At first, my path seemed clear: study psychology, complete my psychotherapy training, earn my PhD — and eventually open my own practice in Germany.

But in 2014, everything changed. I set off on a trip around the world. What was meant to be a break turned into a new way of living and working. I founded my practice online and became a digital nomad.

For over ten years now, I have worked location-independently, supporting people around the world online.

Over the years, I have learned how therapeutic relationships can emerge and become meaningful even through a screen. I share these experiences with colleagues as well. I support them both in building their own online practices and in shaping their clinical work in video sessions – supporting both the business and clinical sides of working online.

This is how I combine my passion for travelling with the work I love and contribute to making professional online counselling accessible to more and more people.

“Before I started working with Sonia, I was dealing with so much stress and anxiety, I knew I needed help making some changes. Sonia listened carefully, asked questions that helped me look at things differently, and gave me tools to help me live a life aligned with my values. I felt like she really understood the challenges that come along with living abroad, being self-employed, and complicated family dynamics. Working with Sonia helped me to become kinder to myself, to be more proactive in my life and relationships, and to develop helpful habits to manage stress and anxiety every day. I loved that I was able to continue working with her no matter which country I was in.

“Working with Sonia over the span of 2 years provided me with clarity when I needed it most. Growing up surrounded by so many different cultures, I have constantly struggled with my cultural identity. Sonia taught me how I can use self-reflection and reappraisal to my advantage when I’m trying to become comfortable with different parts of myself – whether that be understanding my cultural identity or any other aspects of my young adult life. I am so thankful for her!”

Emma, 23

Online Counselling Client | Australian-born Canadian, raised in Europe and Asia.

“Working with Sonia was very helpful for me. What I found particularly valuable was that she speaks both German and French and was therefore able to understand my cultural background very well. I often felt that I didn’t have to explain everything in detail, because certain family or cultural dynamics were immediately understood, which is not something I take for granted.

We mainly worked in German, but I was also able to express experiences and emotions in French when they were connected to specific memories or feelings. This helped me express myself more authentically and freely.

Throughout our sessions, I always felt taken seriously, understood, and safe. Sonia’s calm, open, and empathetic approach made it easier for me to talk about more difficult topics. I gained a lot from our work together.”

“For me, online consulting was the first important step to get help abroad in an acute crisis. When it became clear that I should get external help, this was the only conceivable option for me. On the one hand, I was very reluctant to talk about my problems on-site, on the other hand, I didn’t know where to turn to. Also, the idea of getting help “from home”, i.e. in my language and from my country, took away my fears.

As a result, the online consultation made it possible for me to open up on-site and to get contact persons and help there. I don’t know whether I would have been able to do this without this first so important emergency anchor and intermediate step.

In addition, the online consultation with Ms Jaeger is super flexible in terms of time and can also be used intensively. The contact was established immediately, and I always received very prompt answers to mails.”

“Sonia brings an impressive combination of professional experience, methodological confidence, and human warmth. She speaks reflectively about her work, offers insights into her attitude and practice, and manages to convey complex topics in a nuanced yet very accessible way. What I find particularly remarkable is how naturally she fills digital counselling situations with structure, transparency, and genuine relationship-building, without ever seeming artificial or distant.

From a client’s perspective, Sonia offers exactly what many people hope for in online counselling: a professional, compassionate presence that provides a sense of security while fostering personal growth. Her communication style is clear and empathetic, and her approach feels grounded, calm, and trustworthy, even through a screen.

For colleagues and professionals in psychosocial counselling, Sonia can be a valuable source of inspiration. Her openness, her reflective use of digital formats, and her willingness to share her knowledge make her an authentic voice in the ongoing development of professional online counselling. I am very grateful to have benefited from her expertise and experience as part of my research.”

Sonia is one of the most forward thinking mental health professionals that I have met in many years. Not only is she very easy to talk to, but she also understands the value in finding the best techniques for the best situation. Before knowing Sonia and listening to her Mental Tools Workshop, I was struggling to find a new toolbox and afterwards I have found a new therapy that works well for my lifestyle and worth ethic. Sonia supports persons like myself (who are not her private clients) by using constructive social media posts online to make me take a moment to think about where I am in my realty- am I rushing from goal to goal, or am I actually living a mindful life. I am very grateful for her willingness to share and I look forward to learning more from her as time passes on.

Partnerships Manager

Right from the beginning, it was very evident that Sonia brings experience and knowledge that was extremely valuable to the group. Last week at the #FIGT2019 Conference in Bangkok, she led an exceptional informative workshop about the future of psychotherapy and the unique perspective of someone who works predominantly online. Sonia shared her thoughts with openness and generosity, inviting the audience to dare and ask any questions. Sonia is a confident professional, with a clear voice, she leads the way for many others that are just starting their online working journey.
